Propellers rotating in opposite directions

Counter Rotating Propellers (CRP)

When there is little space or a low vessel draught, Current Motion can deliver thrusters with counter rotating propellers (also called contra rotating propellers).

Optimizing
performance

The power will be divided over the two propellers and lower the blade load in a way that it creates the possibility to use smaller propeller diameters with a good efficiency. The efficiency gain of counter rotating propellers are about 15% in relation to a single propeller. Due to the lower blade load the emitted noise is lower than a single propeller as well.

Widely
applied

Counter-rotating propellers are often used in cruise vessels or ferries where noise levels need to be as low as possible due to the passengers on board. Also, when there is a certain demand for an as low as possible underwater noise, counter rotating propellers are the best option as well.

Increased thrust and efficiency

Counter-rotating propellers generate higher thrust levels than single-propeller designs, leading to improved propulsion efficiency and better fuel economy for the same power input.

Reduced propeller-induced vibrations:

Counter-rotating propellers reduce vibrations and noise levels by counteracting rotational forces. This results in smoother and more comfortable voyages.

Enhanced maneuverability

Dual propeller setup offers better control over thrust direction and distribution, improving maneuverability. Counter-rotating propellers help make tighter turns, navigate narrow waterways, and perform docking operations with greater precision.

Improved stability and control

Counter-rotating propellers enhance stability and control, especially in adverse weather and dynamic operations like towing or dynamic positioning. Balanced thrust from both propellers helps maintain the vessel's heading and position, reducing the risk of drift or loss of control.

Increased bollard pull

Counter-rotating propellers provide vessels with greater pulling force for tasks like towing, pushing barges, or maintaining position in strong currents. They excel over nozzled propellers on speeds above 10 knots, enhancing the vessel's versatility and operational capabilities.

Smaller system diameter with same power

Dual propeller configuration reduces blade load and noise levels in the propulsion system, making it ideal for vessels with low noise level regulations and high comfort requirements.

Customizable configurations

Customizable counter-rotating propellers optimize efficiency by adjusting diameter, pitch, and speed for specific conditions.
